Members will be aware of the swim building and two visits of a Digger Boat to clear the “Cabbage” lily from the pond. Since then, although reduced, the lily was still a nuisance, rending many swims unfishable. This lily is the one normally found in rivers and when introduced into still waters becomes rampant and fills the water very quickly. This is why unauthorised introduction of any plant to our waters is so dangerous.
We had a third visit by the Digger Boat on the 9th October to remove even more lily, especially those blocking swims. With the lower water level other rubbish, in the form of branches, a chair, tyre, plant pot etc, was removed.
Having rejuvenated the pond, we recently introduced 1,000 F1 carp between 8 and 10 inches. These are a hybrid between Common and Crucian carp. They will not breed but will grow to 3-4lbs and will provide sport with the right tackle even in the winter.
