The Club have taken the decision today to temporarily close Silver End Front Pit. The reason for this closure is wholly related to fish welfare and anglers safety, as the Front Pit is beginning to show signs of an algal bloom.
We are sure you are aware, that algal blooms can drastically impact oxygen levels within an aquatic environment, particularly during the overnight period, and algae’s themselves can in some circumstances be harmful to humans should individuals come into contact with them.
Thankfully fish are not currently showing signs of distress at Silver End but in order to ensure we can support the fish stock we have closed the water temporarily, whilst we undertake additional measures to combat the effects of the bloom.
The Environment Agency are aware of the situation and we will continue to liaise closely with them during this time.
The Back Pit remains open for fishing as do our other waters. Thank you for your support in this matter.
Tight Lines!
